Q2BSTUDIO, a leading company in technological development and services, presents a detailed analysis on the quantization of large language models (LLMs), highlighting the impact of CherryQ on preserving the performance of conversational models.

In our exploration, we conducted experiments with Vicuna-1.5 using 3-bit quantization with a group size of 128 for CherryQ and other baseline methods. The evaluation of the quantized models was carried out on Vicuna-bench, which consists of 80 test samples. To measure performance, the responses generated by the quantized models were compared with those of the original 16-bit Vicuna-1.5 model. Using GPT-4 as an evaluator, the responses were classified as win, tie, or lose relative to the 16-bit version, avoiding order effects through 160 comparative trials.

The results of these tests, presented in Figure 3, demonstrate that CherryQ outperforms other quantization methods, achieving the highest number of positive and tied results against FP16 models, thus minimizing the number of losses. We highlight that the 3-bit version of CherryQ achieves a win-tie-lose ratio slightly higher than that of the Vicuna FP16 model, indicating that its performance is comparable or even better, despite the reduction in numerical precision.
