This article presents an automated approach for detecting logical errors related to XPath in XML processors. It demonstrates that differential testing is effective in this area, as XML processors widely follow XPath standards. To generate relevant XPath queries, the method selects a specific node as a target, guiding the generation and rectification of predicates to ensure its inclusion. The results show that this strategy doubles the number of errors detected in 24 hours compared to a random generation approach. Additionally, 27 previously unknown unique errors have been identified in six mature XML processing systems. The surprising aspect of these findings lies in the fact that XML processors are a fundamental piece of computing infrastructure, with the first XPath standard approved over 20 years ago. Given that the evaluated systems have been maintained for at least 15 years, detecting these errors reflects the importance of continuously optimizing these environments.
